The University of Montana Western (Western) is seeking a capable, responsible and accountable glass worker who will work directly with Associate Professor Michael Hengler in the studio as needed. The job will consist of:
- Ensuring a safe working environment for students during out-of-class hours (being in the studio outside of class time).
- Maintaining, repairing, and improving the studio and its equipment.
- Helping university students excel with their projects as one’s technical and conceptual experience allows.
- A general engagement and excitement for glass and a positive attitude.
- The work schedule is flexible, though the position will require 30-40 hours of work per week.
The successful applicant will also be given time to use the studio facilities to continue their own studio practice. Below are the allocations of time per studio, and hours awarded:
Hours of Availability (excludes times when class is in session, and are subject to when studio is hot/operational):
Hot Shop: four hours/week
Flame Shop: four hours/week
Fusing: four firings/week
Cold Shop: 7am-10pm (except when class is in session)
Flat Shop: 7am-10pm (except when class is in session)
A BA or BFA is preferred by applicants. Professional experience could be a substitute for the formal academic degree. Curatorial, gallery, managerial, team or production experience should also be noted, if applicable.
