Revised Culinary Professional II (Cook II, Catering Assistant)

Description

The Culinary Professional II reports to the Director of Dining Services and is responsible for the planning and preparation of food items for catered events as well as meals served in the cafeteria. Responsibilities also include coordination of service with the Conference & Events Coordinator; supervision of catering staff; training of Culinary Professional I workers; proper sanitation practices; properly storing of food items according to health codes; recording daily meal counts and calculating food quantities to be prepared. This position requires a varying work schedule.

Requirements

The successful candidate must hold two years of commercial food service experience, one of which should be in food preparations capacity. Candidate must be skilled in the operation of various types of food service equipment as well as in communicating with others both orally and in writing. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to maintain positive, professional relationships with coworkers and customers. The knowledge, skills and abilities described here are typically acquired through a combination of a high school diploma and two years of commercial food service experience. Physical demands include prolonged standing, bending and lifting of up to thirty pounds to table height and fifteen pounds above the head, exposure to heat, cold and cleaning chemicals. A Serve Safe certificate is required within six months of employment and can be acquired on the job.
