Dances with Words Event

Please join us for this exciting “Dances with Words” event. The “Dances with Words” series is produced by English Professor Alan Weltzien. Free and open to the public, the series provides the community with a unique opportunity to listen to authors reading their own works, including Montana Western student writers.

Abram’s stories and essays have appeared in “Esquire,” “The New York Times,” “Glimmer Train Stories,” “Narrative,” and many other publications. He earned a BA in English from the University of Oregon and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. He lives in Butte, Montana with his wife.

Abrams is best known for his contemporary military fiction. His Iraq War comedy, “Fobbit,” was named an “instant classic” by Publishers Weekly and a Top 10 Pick for Literary Fiction in the Fall of 2012. “Fobbit” was also a New York Times Notable Book of 2012, an Indie Next pick, a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, a Montana Honor Book, and a finalist for the L.A. Times’ Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction.

Abrams’s latest novel, “Brave Deeds,” is a story that “follows a squad of six AWOL soldiers as they attempt to cross war-torn Baghdad on foot to attend the funeral of their leader, Staff Sergeant Rafe Morgan.”
