The University of Montana Western invites applications for the position of Bookstore Manager. The Bookstore Manager is responsible for general management of operations in the University Store including, but not limited to:
Supervision of all retail departments of the bookstore;
Development, interpretation, and application of policies and procedures;
Direction of all buying activities;
Direction of all inventory controls and managing year-end inventory processes;
Development of all sales promotion activities including merchandise displays and advertising copy;
Develop, maintain high quality customer service to both on campus and distance education customers;
Supervise and coordinate the development and activity of the store’s web page;
Direct the rental and distribution of graduation attire for staff and faculty.
Coordinate and supervise the ordering process for textbooks and related academic materials;
Initiate and approve purchase orders, ensure timely delivery and prompt payment of invoices;
Ensure timely stocking and identification of textbooks;
Contact and meet with faculty as required;
Develop advertising and promotion plans relating to textbooks buyback;
Coordinate the return of textbooks for overstock, damaged, or defective books.
Preparation and management of a fiscally responsible annual budget plan;
Preparation and management of daily cash reporting;
Implementation and maintenance of cash flow;
Supervision of the bookstore accounts payables and receivables.
Responsible for all hiring of student staff;
Supervision of bookstore employees, including the training, scheduling and assigning work, conducting annual performance evaluations and managing personnel actions;
Establishment and maintenance of department work rules;
Compliance of bookstore employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices.
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, retail management, a related area or three (3) years of retail management experience.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and other computer programs.
- Excellent customer service.
- Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Ability to professionally develop employees and manage their performance.
- Ability communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Fiscal management.
- Inventory control principles and systems.
- Textbook and supply vendors procurement procedures.
- Retail merchandising and stock control procedures.
